Corona talks 4. Rocklily Wombats

With a great honour I present a story about Dianna and Warwick from Rocklily Wombat rescue center.

Australian dream

When in 6^th grade I read a book about Australia, it became my life dream to visit this remote country. I dreamed to see kangaroos, Great Barrier Reef and to stand in front of Uluru and see how it changes colors during the day. Funny enough I moved to Denmark, where Jørn Utzon, the architect of the Sydney opera, came from (I even visited the last building that Utzon designed to know more about this talented man).

Rocklily Wombats

The Danish connection to Australia became even stronger after Frederick, Crown Prince of Denmark, married the Australian citizen Mary Donaldson. Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, won hearts of many people, created her charity foundation and introduced, among others, an Australian art concept Sculpture by the Sea.

Wombats

From documentaries about wild life in Australia, I learned about a strange, but cute animal, wombat.

I became curious about this short – legged mammal, tried to see them in Copenhagen zoo (but they were too shy that day), but succeed to ”have a lunch” with them at a local cafe ”Lazy Wombat”.

Fascination became stronger when I got a Rocklily wombat calendar as a gift.

Each month I enjoyed beautiful photos of wombats, their personal stories and learned some fun facts about animals, like few wombats were subjects of ancient aboriginal rock art (4000 – year – old wombat drawing was found in Wollemi National park), they are good diggers and funniest of all: wombat poo is cube – shaped! 🙂

Bushfires

I got my calendar in the end of 2019, and it broke my heart to hear the news about the bushfires. I think many people all around the world prayed for Australia those terrible weeks.

It’s been a huge nature catastrophe, and it is amazing, that many people volunteered and tried to find ways to help.

But then COVID19 became hot topic on the world arena and our everyday life became so different, that there were no time to think about AU.

But the more I went through my calendar, the more interested I became about Rocklily Wombats. I discovered that this is a rescue center, and they treat wombats for mange and release them to the wild nature when they are ready.

And the donations they get only from their webshop. I decided to learn a bit more, and looked at their website.

Corona talks 3. Instagram interview with a German artist

Today I want you to present a story from Christian, a hobby artist from Germany.

I chatted with him on instagram and happy he wanted to take part in ”corona talk” for my blog. This article is a ”patchwork” of our conversations during the last day of 2020.

Christian has been interested in art since he was a child. However, it was neither clear to him that he could create such works of art, nor he dreamed of it.

He came back to art creation in April because he wanted to process a breakup.

” Back then, art was an outlet for me.

I just painted my first picture out of that impulsively”.

Corona talks 2. Interview with an UX designer

Another guest of my ”corona” project is Brigitta, yet another member of ”Creative women’s club”.

Brigitta comes from Romania, she graduated at Business Academy in Aarhus, and after a year of looking for a job, she joined the team at ”Grundfos” as a consultant to build design systems.

Actually, because of design she moved to Jutland 6 years ago. She wanted to study Multimedia design, but since such faculty didn’t even exist in her home country, she looked for other universities in Europe. The one in Aarhus sounded most exited. Business Academy (where Brigitta applied) offered 2-years program, where one can work with digital design, content production, user experience design, frontend development and frontend design.

When Brigitta got accepted and moved Scandinavia, she experienced a great cultural shock. For example, it was a new way to cooperate in teams, that one can have own opinion and disagree with professors, and there is no need in memorizing long texts.

Thanks to her hardworking skills, Brigitta got a job at the project and started her own design company. → →

Santhi Art

Many things happened in my life since my last post, but it doesn’t mean I stopped meeting interesting people in my daily life.

Today I want to present you Santhi Maniam, an artist, an active member of the exhibitions, organised by ”Creative women’s club arhus”, exhibitions at her own gallery in Aarhus, active member of ”Spouse community Aarhus” etc. She was a participant at the exhibitions ”Inspired by Aarhus” in 2016, ”Inspired by nature” in 2017, ”Look closer” in 2018 at ”TedxAarhus”, plus solo exhibitions at her gallery.

• Tell a bit about yourself, what is your background, and how did you end up in Denmark? 🙂

My name is Santhi Maniam and I am from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My professional background is in Training and Facilitation. I worked as a Training Specialist for many years and in 2009 decided to take a break and travel alone around Europe. That is when I met my husband and after travelling back and forth, we decided to get married and I settled in Denmark in 2011.

This grey Danish Sunday I want to write about sunny Anastasia Takki, painter, designer, author of books and creative studying programms for grownups and children.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Anastasia. And it happened for me to be born as a painter. My parents tried many times to direct me for more ‘earth’ professions, but they didn’t successed. From 6 years old I started to sew dresses for my dolls, and from 16, I sewed clothes for myself and my classmates.

I design products as long as I remember myself. I tried all directions in this area from polygraphics to interior design. Because my love to fashion I started to study master’s degree at Lomonosov Moscow State University, where my lecturer was famous fashion critic Aleksandr Vasilev.

And then a miracle happened. I wrote a book, and it was published at one of the biggest Moscow publishing offices, and to my love to fashion I added love to writing.

After I created a club for talented women in Aarhus, I am blessed with interesting meetings everyday.

This late Friday story is dedicated to an amazing person Catherina. She is one of the loveliest, funniest and kindest people I have met in my life.

Catherina is from Malaysia, but her family originally comes from India.

6 years ago, on the internet, she met a Danish guy, and they started to chat on everyday topics. Half a year later they decided to meet each other in person. Catherina flew to Denmark for the first time to meet her future husband. This couple doesn’t have an easy romantic story. All this time they had to fly thousand of kilometers to see each other. But in the end they decided, that they love each other no matter of distance, languages and cultures. They got married last year.

In this Saturday’s post let me present a talented painter Tatyana.

Tatyana is 36 years old, she is married and has two wonderful sons.

Tatyana graduated an art school, and later from the university, where she studied regions studies. Immediatly after graduation she moved to Egypt, as she always dreamed to live in a warm country near the sea. There she met her future husband. In the beginning they lived in Egypt, later in United Arab Emirates, and now they live in Qatar.

Tatyana feels comfortable in the Middle East. Maybe due to traditional families society, where husband takes full responsibility for his family, where family life is stable and predictable.

Handmade toys by Ksenia

Today’s guest of the blog is Ksenia, who creates beautiful toys.

Ksenia is from the city Izhevsk (Russia).

Her most bright childhood memories are from the times, when her father helped her and her sister to make different creative things. As when they did a frog from a tree fungus, by adding paper legs and button eyes.

So nobody was surprised when Ksenia decided to study at art school and later at art pedagogical department at the university.
