Last week I watched movie “The Edge” with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin. The movie was about survival in wild nature. It is really worth to watch.
But what caught my attention was the gratitude of film makers to Bart the Bear and his trainer Doug Seus. I looked for information and with it I decided to share with you, readers of my blog.
As it appeared, Bart played in a lot of movies, he was invited to one of the Oscar ceremonies and appeared in documentaries (like “Growing up” with Brad Pitt as narrator in the episode).
Bart the Bear was an Alaskan Kodiak Bear, he was trained by Doug Seus and his wife Lynne.
He grew to 9′ 6″ (2.90 m) tall and weighed 1,500 pounds (680 kg) throughout his life as an adult.
He died in 2000 when he was 23 years old.
He had very deep relationships with his trainers, he was a friend and part of the family.
They trained a lot of other animals, and created bear protection organization.
It is called “Vital Ground” and if you are interested about grizzly and other species of bears you can check their websites.
Everywhere in the world nature struggles against modern civilization and bears are one of disappearing species nowadays.
